About Welcome Weekend
What is Welcome Weekend?
Welcome Weekend is an event hosted by the Cooperstown Graduate Program to get to know CGP and the Cooperstown area. There are no interviews, and the weekend is optional.
Will I have an opportunity to speak to current students at the program?
Yes! Prospective students and potential applicants will be matched with a current first-year student who will serve as a Welcome Weekend Guide. Prospective students will also have the chance to meet first and second-year students during events over the course of Welcome Weekend.
What should I wear?
Applicants are expected to dress as they would for a job interview. We recommend wearing business casual for the entire weekend. Click the links for resources on how to find clothes that fit those descriptions!
Can my parents/partner/other visitors come with me to Welcome Weekend events?
Visitors are welcome to attend the tour of the program and any outdoor tours of Cooperstown that are offered. Other than these events, we ask that only prospective students attend Welcome Weekend activities.
I am flying into Albany Airport. Will there be transportation to and from Cooperstown?
Yes! There will be shuttles to Cooperstown from Albany International Airport on Thursday, March 26th. The shuttles will arrive at Albany airport at 3:30 pm and depart at 4:30 pm. There will also be shuttles on Sunday, March 29th, to return to the Albany International Airport, leaving Cooperstown at 9:00 am.
Will I have to buy any meals?
There will be some catered meals throughout the weekend, and others you will be responsible for. On Thursday, dinner will be provided. On Friday, we will provide breakfast and dinner, but you will be responsible for lunch. On Saturday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided!
Do I have to attend this event to get into CGP?
Not at all. Come one, two, or all three days, whatever works for your availability and budget. A few events will even be available asynchronously.
About CGP
What are the opportunities for financial aid?
CGP offers a number of scholarships and student assistantships. Grant awards typically increase in the second year of study. For complete tuition and fee information, see this page.
What is the campus like?
CGP sits on the shore of Otsego Lake, situated 23 miles from the SUNY Oneonta campus. All classes take place in the same building. The CGP building is only a few minutes’ drive from downtown Cooperstown, and many students live within walking or biking distance. Cooperstown students also have access to many of SUNY Oneonta’s resources, including the student union, the library, and the recreation center. Check out the Virtual Tours page to learn more!
What exactly is the relationship between the Cooperstown Graduate Program and SUNY Oneonta?
The Cooperstown Graduate Program is a part of SUNY (State University of New York) Oneonta. Students at CGP are students at and graduate from SUNY Oneonta. This means tuition and financial aid all go through SUNY Oneonta. Students have access to campus resources like cultural events, student clubs, the Health and Counseling Center, the Recreation Center, and Milne Library.
Do students in the Science Track interact with students with the History Track?
Yes! History and Science Track students are enrolled in many of the same required courses throughout their studies and collaborate regularly. In addition, both History and Science Track students are able to take courses in the other concentration as electives.
Who is my advisor?
The faculty work collaboratively to advise students.
Where can I find a place to live in Cooperstown?
To make searching for a house easier, we will share a Google doc with a list of local options– mostly places that students have stayed in the past, or are staying now. This resource will be sent out in late March!
